Do you have what it takes, to show the world what good writing looks like? For the third year, we welcome our conferees to submit their best work for our writing contests:
The Amy Foundation, founded in 1976 by W. James Russell and his wife Phyllis, was named after their daughter. Their annual writing contest is a call to present spiritual truth reinforced with biblical references in secular, nonreligious publications. It's designed to recognize creative, skillful writing that presents in a sensitive, thought-
provoking manner a biblical position on issues affecting the world today. Rusty Wright will give a presentation and offer us all the opportunity to participate. www.amyfound.org
Have you ever wanted to write for Guideposts magazine? B.J. Taylor will show us how to enter their annual contest. They're looking for true first-person stories (yours or someone else’s), 1,500 words. It needs to convey a spiritual message, with scenes, drama, and characters. Winners will attend a week-long seminar, all expenses paid, on how to write for Guideposts.
The Antelope Valley Thespians, a brand-new theater company on the Westside of town, is looking for original unpublished works by local playwrights. Winning entries will receive a cash prize of $300, and will have their play performed by local actors in the AVT’s own Almond Valley Playhouse. Artistic director Nalin Ratnayake will be on hand to make a presentation and answer questions from any who might desire to participate. www.avthespians.org
Note: These contests are sponsored by outside organizations, and we have no influence in the outcome. Our role is simply to inform you of the opportunities and help you connect with those who might help you advance your writing career.
