We are the High Desert Christian Writers' Guild, an informal group of local wordsmiths who meet monthly for fellowship, education, and encouragement. If you live in the area, or are just passing through, we invite you to join us. While we share a faith in the risen Lord, most of us don't write material that's overtly religious. We write novels, magazine articles, humor, children's books, and just about everything else. And oh yes, a couple of us actually write about theology and church history.
If you like, you can bring up to four double-spaced pages of something you've written. We will have someone read it aloud before the group, and offer helpful hints to make it the best it can be.
Come and join us at 10:00 am on the second Tuesday of each month. We will meet until noon, and then go out to lunch at a local eatery.
Our conference is co-sponsored by the Quartz Hill School of Theology, which offers a free and open educational resource for self-learners everywhere. Their mission is to advance knowledge and education, and serve the world in the 21st century. Their courses cover a wide range of subjects. The classes are offered as shareware, which means that you don't have to pay unless you want to.
As with other shareware, there are some advantages to paying. For instance, you'll get academic credit for your work. Check out a course, try it on for size, see if it fits.
Courses are offered in a wide variety of subjects, either as shareware or in a traditional classroom setting. For more information, visit their website at www.theology.edu
Our conference directorSteven Hutson was born and raised in Los Angeles, and from a very early age always enjoyed writing, whether for school, for business, or just for fun. Shortly before the publication of his first book (What They Never Taught You in Sunday School, Tate Publishing, 2006), he established a freelance editing service and became a mentor to many young aspiring writers. In 2009 he began writing a weekly syndicated column for the North Star National syndicate.
Steve resides in Palmdale, CA, with his wife Ruth, and their son Bradley, age 10. Apart from his ventures in writing and editing, he serves on the Board of Library Trustees for the City of Palmdale. ______________________________________________________________________
